Hello everyone….so i am well rested from a bit of family vacation time, and now i must resume releasing my new CD, “Accidental Thief”, into the wide world….

I will head East first, so if you are in Northampton, MA, Boston, Portland, ME, New York, Easton, MD or Washington DC, i’ll be there very soon, and i will have the new CD, NEW T-Shirts, and new songs for you to hear!….

I’ll also be sending out another email very soon that will have details and dates for the Midwest and West Coast legs of the tour, which will start in mid-August, and go through September….or you can check them out at the shows page of my website right now….www.matttheelectrician.com

And, for those of you in my lovely (albeit, too hot…107, really??) hometown of Austin, TX, i’ll be playing on August 13th at Threadgills World Headquarters, and it’s a co-bill with the amazing Joe Pug (recently heard on Prairie Home Companion)….and, it’s the last band show till October….and it’s gonna be awesome….and i really think that you should be there…..and you should get your tickets soon, cause it’s cheaper that way, for you….and, well, yeah…..

Good morrow friends…it is Monday, and i’m in between radio shows right now…sitting at a cafe in my 100 degree Austin home….aren’t you jealous, other colder places?….ok, maybe not….but, right now, this is where i am, and where i’ll be releasing my CD, and where i’ll be playing…so, it feels pretty ok today…

If you haven’t already heard, our CD Release Show on Saturday night is SOLD OUT!….however, if you’re around Austin, and you want to see the whole band playing songs from the new CD, may i suggest that you come out to Waterloo Records tomorrow, Tuesday June 14th, at 5pm….not only will we be playing, but the new CD, “Accidental Thief”, will be for sale for the first time!!….and also, there will be FREE BEER!!

And, if you were planning on coming to the show on Saturday, and did not get a reservation in time, while i am deeply sorry, and will try to make it up to you in the future somehow, might i now steer you in the direction of the world famous Cactus Cafe, where two of my good friends, and favorite songwriters, Anais Mitchell and Dustin Welch will be playing (seriously, if i didn’t already have plans, that’s where i’d be)…

I have added a few Austin shows and one in St Francisville, LA to the list below, as well as Dallas, Denton, Houston, Helotes, and Lafayette, LA…..

Oh, and, there’s a rumor that i will be playing a song or two at Flipnotics tonight with many of my songwriting friends fresh home from Kerrville…

I am at the Tonder Music Festival in Tonder, Denmark right now….sitting in my hotel room, 15 minutes down between shows and meals and meetings….it’s crazy out there…and beautiful….and crazy beautiful….i just played a song swap with Arlo Guthrie, and Mick Flannery and John Spillane from Ireland, as well as my good friend Troy Campbell from Austin….i’m still a bit in shock….and there were hundreds of people there…and it was amazing…but i’m also tired, and i miss my family…..this life is a wonderful crazy thing……

This morning we went to the top of an old and famous church in Amsterdam called Westerkerk, and we watched a man named Boudewyn Zwart play the bells in the bell tower…..he played some Bach, and some traditional Dutch tunes, and even a medley of national songs for all the nationalities present (Polish, Spanish, American, Finnish and Dutch)…then he played part of the melody from an old song of mine called Prom Night, and then improvised a type of fugue around it….we walked up 210 stairs, or 289 feet, or 85 meters, straight up, and it was well worth the walk… you can read more about Boudewyn at www.bellmoods.com

Sitting in a living room in The Netherlands right now, after a long afternoon walk around Old Amsterdam….played a show last night somewhere out in the Holland countryside, at an organic farm/commune, followed by an amazing homegrown dinner and hours spent sitting around a fire late into the night……before that i played at the first folk club in Holland, in Harrlem, where Pete Seeger had played in 1961, and later Simon & Garfunkel…….spent a week and a half in Denmark, part of that time at an intensive/life-altering/magical songwriting workshop of sorts that took place at a castle built by a Danish alchemist in the 1500’s, joined by my now new best friends from all over Scandinavia…….

I’m an extremely lucky/blessed individual…..i’m so grateful to the world around me right now….seriously, i get to make shit up for Â living??!!….thank you universe

I never liked the Folk Alliance…i only went twice, but i didn’t like it….and really, over the years, i got to the point where i didn’t like music conferences/conventions of any kind…..i just felt that they took money and time from musicians, and didn’t give much in return….so there….that’s where i was…..

This year i was kinda dragged there, and i thought, “ok, i’ll give it a shot, i’ll try to keep an open mind”, and that’s how i went in……and damn, it worked…..i had a fantastic time…it felt like a shot in the arm….a week at the spa…a coffee enema…..just so many happy songwriters all in one place, and all doing what they love…..

and i wrote a song, and i met all sorts of cool people, and i went to the Stax museum, and i ate fried chicken, and i didn’t want a cigarette that bad, and i drank coffee, and i watched my friends Meg Hutchinson and Anne Heaton play in front of a huge packed room, and i watched Anais Mitchell and Jefferson Hamer like 4 times and still wanted to see more, and i hung out with Owen Temple alot, which was fun, and even though i’ve known Raina Rose for like 8 years, i felt like it was the first time seeing her play, and she was awesome, and i had a really nice long conversation about music with Cory Brannan, and that was fun, cause i didn’t really know him that well, and he’s nice, and Troy Campbell and i got alot done in promotiong the House Of Songs, and i think that’s just gonna keep getting better, and i had dinner with Ray Wylie Hubbard and Troy and Dickie Lee Erwin and Tish Hinjosa, and i saw Robby Hecht, and Anthony Da Costa and Rebecca Loebe and Paul Curreri and Devon Sproule, and i had never seen any of them before, and they were all awesome, and i got to hang out with and sing a little with my old friend Ana Egge, and i haven’t done that in years, and i got to see Danny Barnes from 3 feet away, and he still blows minds as always, and i heard young songwriters covering the songs of slightly older songwriters, and that made me happy for some reason, and i saw all my friends like AJ Roach, Nels Andrews, Betty Soo, Danny Schmidt, Carrie Elkin, Elam Blackmon, Melissa Greener, Will Sexton, Charlie Faye, Noelle and Andre, Jenni Finlay, Laura Thomas, and i got to swap songs with Randy Weeks, and i had never heard him before, and he was awesome, and super nice too, and i had lunch with Rex Foster, and he had some awesome stories about the 60s, and he too was really nice, and i talked with Patty Larkin, and she has kids, and so we talked about that, and she was nice also…..

and i’m realizing i could keep going, but it was just a really good thing for me to do right then, and i think it will still be, and i hope that i get that feeling again…..
